Unfortunately, there tends to be not much available in Victoria.   The listing below suggest places to try but my be out of date.

 

Cook St. Village Activity Center  small program was offered  fall 2018 but has since stopped.   (last updated March. 2019)

Chess In the Library (1):  At time of writing (Sept., 2010), a pilot program for chess in the library is being run at the Juan de Fuca Branch.  More information (and if that link doesn't work, try the Victoria Junior Chess website)

 

Chess in the Library (2):  as of time of writing  (updated Nov. 2013) casual chess at the downtown branch on Broughton St.  Tuesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm Wednesdays 9:30am-11:30am.   Some sets available behind the desk. 

 

Chess in the Library (3):  A chess set is set up for play in the Bruce Hutchinson branch at Commonwealth Place on Elk Lake Dr.  [last update Aug. 2018]

 

Casual play (1): at the Starbucks at the corner of Shelbourne & Feltham, Sunday afternoons starting around noon (last updated March 2018)

 

Casual play (2):  at the QV cafe, corner of Fisgard & Government, Sunday evening starting around 6:30. (last updated Aug. 2018) (the night might change from time to time)..

 

 

Associations:

 

Victoria Junior Chess Society:  Hosts junior events, junior tournaments throughout the school year,  as well as WIllows Beach and CRD Square activity.

 

Events:

 

Grand Pacific Open: The main weekend event of the year:  A 6 round FIDE and CFC rated event at Easter.

 

Jack Taylor Memorial: A 5 round event in  November.  Watch the Victoria Chess Club webpage for updates.

 

Victoria Open:  A 5 round event in January and held in conjunction with BC vs WA match.
